L-2000 Valve Features

Valve Installation Options
The cage/rack manufacture installs the manifold and valves for proper alignment to insure a secure and leak free connection. Each cage/rack manufacture provides either a mounting grommet for attaching the valve to the cage, or grommet which allows the valve to penetrate the cage.  The photos show some examples.

OPTION 1: Cage Mounted Valves provides the means of sterilizing the valve with the cage each time the cage is changes. Facilities that are working under strict barrier conditions consider this option to be more ideal. Cross contamination between cages is reduced when multiple cages are removed from the rack and returned to there position on the rack.
The recessed grommet protects the male-QD and allows stacking of cages.

The female quick disconnect is mounted on the rack manifold and insures a positive connection.  Our unique design eliminates friction between metal parts that can wear out quickly, providing a source of debris, causing the water valve to malfunction.

OPTION 2:  Rack installed Valves can be threaded onto the rack manifold or mounted with the quick-disconnect feature for easy removal and cleaning.

Facilities have chosen this option for facilities that are working under conventional housing.

A spring activated port allows the valve to enter the cage, providing valve access to the animal.   When the cage is removed from the
rack, the port closes.

Cleaning and Sanitizaton
A routine schedule for cleaning the valves will assure proper operation and prevention of possible leaks in the cage.
The procedure for cleaning the valves will be determined by the installation option selected for your caging system.

Option 1, the advantage of Cage Mounted valves is the ability to clean the valve effectively each time the cage is washed and sterilized. This extends the life of the valve and inhances the barrier of the cage.

Option 2, Rack Installed valves require
the quick-disconnect feature as shown for removal of the valves for cleaning.

Without this removable feature, the rack manifold must be disconnected to permit the manual removal of valves for cleaning purposes.

The day to day use of this valve when removing and replacing cages, should include a simple procedure that involves rotating the valve stem 360 degrees to flush debris that can attach itself to the valve.

Valves must be removed on a routine schedule for cleaning. Visual inspection of valves and the presence of deposits and debris is a good indication that the valves must be cleaned. This build up of debris over extended periods of time can result in valve leaks and floods from build-up.
